Electric boilers and increased heat storage capacity are key elements of the area\u2019s future zero-emission energy system. The electric boilers will add capacity to heat production and respond both to the growing energy demand of the Kokkola Industrial Park and to the expansion of the district heating network.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Thanks to a more diversified production structure, Kokkolan Energia is improving the flexibility and security of supply of the energy system and is able to optimize its heat production according to fluctuations in electricity and fuel prices. The electric boilers also support the balance of the electricity system as weather-dependent power generation increases. <\/p>\n\n<p>A key strength of Kokkolan Energia is its close cooperation with companies in the Kokkola Industrial Park, which enables a significant share of heat production to be based on the utilization of industrial waste heat. Increasing heat storage capacity also creates new opportunities for storing waste heat and using it even more efficiently. <\/p>\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br\/><strong>Electric boilers meet growing energy demand<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n<p>The project includes the construction of two electric steam boilers that will be connected to existing power plant processes. In addition, a pressurized district heating thermal storage unit will be built. Once completed, the overall solution will almost quadruple Kokkolan Energia\u2019s heat storage capacity.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Utilizing existing structures and processes has been a key starting point in the project design. One of the electric boilers will be installed in an existing production facility at the \u201cPower\u201d power plant, while a new boiler building is being constructed at the \u201cVoima\u201d power plant.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Construction work is currently in progress at both power plant facilities. March 2026 marked an important achievement as the district heating thermal storage being built reached its maximum height, and construction started on the new electric boiler building at the Voima power plant.
