Kokkola Industrial Park (KIP) will welcome a new addition as the Finnish green chemistry startup Origin by Ocean and established chemical industry company CABB Group enter into a strategic partnership. As a result of this collaboration, the world’s first industrial-scale bio-refinery of its kind will be constructed in the area. The facility will process harmful sargassum seaweed collected from the Caribbean into sustainable, bio-based ingredients for applications in industries such as cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.

The bio-refinery combines Origin by Ocean’s patented technology with CABB’s advanced manufacturing expertise and is expected to reach full operational capacity by 2028. This innovative facility offers a novel solution to a global environmental challenge and provides an alternative to fossil-based raw materials. At the same time, it promotes sustainable growth and reinforces KIP’s position as a forerunner in the global green transition.
